Actual life events that impact our changing world mainly inspired the Traitors Trilogy. It’s fiction from facts to educate the unknowing, depicting the turbulent world we live in.
When I started writing the trilogy series, it hit me that I must sacrifice something in order to realise the dream of becoming a published author. I had a full-time job, kids and family to take care of. But lack of time was no longer an excuse for not writing. I had to re-work my schedule to accommodate time for writing.
In life, we have to make practical sacrifices in order to catch the dream and realise our goals.
”But how?” you ask me. ”How did you do that, working full-time and taking care of the family?” The answer was simple and insanely viable. I sacrificed certain things in my life; I limited time spent on watching television, text messaging, Social media, playing video games, and I reduced time spent on the telephone chatting with friends. It was vital I set aside time and space to write.
The trick got me unstuck, and I was no longer overwhelmed by life.
I developed a system which I diligently followed when writing the first draft. Since I worked a full-time job, I mainly wrote in the evenings when I got home. I set a goal to write one thousand words per day before I went to bed. On weekends, I woke up at 4 am and wrote two thousand words or more. By midday I reached the goals for the day. I took a walk or went jogging. I spent time with family, and, if times allowed, I went out with friends.
I set milestones too, for example, finishing writing the first one hundred words of a novel, in a set period or completing the first draft of 300 pages, in three months. I celebrated these milestones whenever accomplished. That is when I bought something nice for myself, and went to the movies.
It is the re-writing and polishing of the draft that was the hardest job. This is when I shed unnecessary words, tightened plot holes, shifted paragraphs and even shredded chapters that didn’t move forward the story. It is a gruesome process, but necessary to make sure I polished the manuscripts before sending them to my editor.
After I published the trilogy books, I learnt I enjoy telling stories and, mostly; I loved the creating process.
It gave an incredible feeling of satisfaction to hold my published books in my hands.
In love and light!
